She leads Africa is a non-profit organization that gets women into the workforce. She Leads Africa recognizes the problems that are present in today’s society. Women in Africa face many obstacles that could prevent them from being able to start their own businesses. One of these problems is the unequal education that is granted to women. Women in Africa have limited access to education. This can create barriers because a lack of education results in a lack of qualifications that is necessary to create successful businesses. Another problem that many women face is the access to finance. Studies have shown that women are less likely to receive loans and appointments with investors than men, and women also face higher interest rates. Limited opportunities and cultural stereotypes can also impede African women’s success as entrepreneurs. The She Leads Africa website cites certain traditions which frown upon ambitious women in business. As in any male-dominated society, women often lack the political and financial power to form business networks, and when they do achieve their business goals, their success is often linked to a male patron rather than their own hard work and skill.
The proactive nature of She Leads Africa allows for women to be uplifted in the face of these problems. It is a group led by African women that focuses on uplifting African women through supporting female African entrepreneurs. At its base, She Leads Africa is a female led competition that helps female run businesses to start up. The organization has drawn response from more than 380 applicants in 27 different countries, and has awarded cash prizes of at least $55,000 since its formation. They are able to support women’s businesses directly and to raise awareness of specific women’s projects to possible sponsors. Overall, She Leads Africa is able to help with the journey of entrepreneurship and personal development for hundreds of smart and capable women.
