The year is 1325. I have just left my warm homeland in the town of Tangier, Morocco and I am traveling on a journey to Mecca. The pilgrimage to Mecca is one of the most, if not the most important pillar of Islam and I am so blessed to be able to have the opportunity to complete this journey at the young age of 21 and I do not foresee it to be a perilous one. I feel that this journey will be complete within the course of a year and I hope to not return to Morocco to hastily and take this time to explore as much of the unseen treasures of the world as I can. I will begin my voyage by exploring lands in the Middle East that will lead me to the Red Sea. From there, I will arrive at Mecca. I will return to you diary at the end of my travels. Wish me all the luck in the world.
It has been a year since my journey to Mecca, and I am more inspired than ever in my travels. I have just arrived in Cairo by the land route via Tunis and Tripoli . It is so beautiful and again I feel blessed got this opportunity. From here on out, I vow never to travel any road a second time. There are many reasons to travel, trade, education, pilgrimage, but for me, I have learned that there is so much more to gain from these adventures. Yes I am a scholar, from a family that has produced a large number of Muslim judge’s. but I have much to learn from those around me. Traveling, I will receive the generosity of numerous sultans, rulers, governors, and high dignitaries in the countries I will visit. Not only will I gain value from these experience, I will be able to secure an income and a lifestyle of travel.
